While the Toyota is also available in either gas or hybrid options, it doesn't have as many available powertrains as the Sorento. Plus, the Sorento menu includes a cutting-edge plug-in hybrid option that can travel up to 30 miles on electric power alone. The Toyota Highlander hybrid is not a plug-in and it doesn't offer any electric-only driving ability.

The Kia Sorento vs. the Honda Pilot

To that end, if you're searching for a hybrid SUV for your family, the Sorento is the way to go. It's available in four different engines, including two hybrid options, while the Honda Pilot is strictly a traditional, gas-powered SUV that comes with one V6 system and no alternatives.
  • Fuel economy. Even without hybrid engineering, the Kia Sorento offers better fuel economy than the Honda Pilot. Just looking at the entry-level Sorento, you can expect 24 mpg in the city, 29 mpg on the highway, and 26 mpg combined. But the Honda Pilot is rated for 20 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined. Add in the Sorento hybrid options, and you can expect even greater amounts of efficiency and capability.
  • Legroom and comfort. While both of these SUVs offer family-friendly seating in three rows, the Kia Sorento is the more comfortable model, with more legroom for you and your passengers in both the front and the rear than the Honda Pilot.
